Meister Eckhart, born Eckhart von Hochheim, was a German philosopher, mystic, and theologian of the late 13th and early 14th centuries. He was a member of the Dominican Order and is well-known for his deep and often controversial theological ideas, which have had a significant impact on both Christian mysticism and Western philosophy. Eckhart was born in the village of Tambach, near Gotha in central Germany, and he joined the Dominican Order at a young age. He studied in Cologne and Paris, where he earned a Master of Theology degree. Eckhart’s teachings focused on the direct experience of God and the concept of the “divine spark” within every human being.
