Mitchell attended Southgate County School and later studied physical chemistry at University College, Oxford, where he became friends with Richard Burton. Inspired by Burton, he left his course to pursue acting, enrolling at the Royal Academy of Dramatic Art (RADA). Mitchell began his career in radio and theater before making his way to television and film. “Till Death Us Do Part” premiered in 1965, making Alf Garnett a household name and a controversial figure due to the character’s outspoken views.
