Biography
Andrew J. Feustel, an accomplished American geophysicist and NASA astronaut, was born in Lancaster, Pennsylvania. Growing up in Lake Orion, Michigan, Feustel developed a passion for science and space exploration early in life. He earned his Bachelor’s degree in Solid Earth Sciences from Purdue University in 1989 and his Master’s degree in Geophysics from Purdue in 1991. Feustel later completed a Ph.D. in Geological Sciences, specializing in Seismology, from Queen’s University in Kingston, Ontario, Canada, in 1995. Feustel’s career at NASA began when he was selected as an astronaut candidate in 2000. He has flown on multiple missions, including STS-125 in 2009, which was the final servicing mission for the Hubble Space Telescope, and STS-134 in 2011, the penultimate mission of the Space Shuttle Program. In March 2018, Feustel launched aboard Soyuz MS-08 to the International Space Station (ISS) for Expedition 55/56, during which he served as Commander of the ISS. Over his career, Feustel has logged over 226 days in space and completed 9 spacewalks.
