Ben Shalom Bernanke is an American economist and public servant who served two terms as the Chairman of the Federal Reserve, the central bank of the United States, from 2006 to 2014. He was born in Augusta, Georgia, and raised in Dillon, South Carolina. Bernanke has been a significant figure in the field of economics and is widely credited with helping to navigate the United States through the financial crisis of 2007-2008. Bernanke attended Harvard University, where he graduated summa cum laude with a Bachelor of Arts in economics in 1975.
