Bernardine Rae Dohrn is an American former leader of the Weather Underground, a radical left militant organization, and an educator. Born in Milwaukee, Wisconsin, she became a prominent figure in the 1960s and 1970s counterculture and anti-Vietnam War movements. Dohrn attended the University of Chicago, where she earned her law degree. Despite passing the bar exam, her involvement with the Weather Underground prevented her from being admitted to the bar. After spending several years underground, she eventually turned herself in to authorities in 1980. Dohrn served a brief prison sentence for her activities but later transitioned into academia and child advocacy, becoming an Associate Professor of Law at Northwestern University and the director of the Children and Family Justice Center.
