William Patrick Corgan Jr., better known as Billy Corgan, is an American musician, songwriter, producer, and professional wrestling promoter. He was born on March 17, 1967, in Elk Grove Village, Illinois. Corgan is best known as the lead singer, primary songwriter, and guitarist of the alternative rock band The Smashing Pumpkins. The band achieved significant success in the 1990s with their unique style that blended elements of gothic rock, heavy metal, and shoegaze. Corgan formed The Smashing Pumpkins in 1988 with guitarist James Iha, bassist D’arcy Wretzky, and drummer Jimmy Chamberlin.
