Robert Linlithgow Livingston Jr., commonly known as Bob Livingston, is an American politician and lobbyist who served as a member of the United States House of Representatives from 1977 to 1999. Born in Colorado Springs, Colorado, and raised in New Orleans, Louisiana, Livingston is a member of the Republican Party and represented Louisiana’s 1st congressional district. He rose to prominence during his tenure in the House, notably serving as the chairman of the House Appropriations Committee from 1995 to 1999. In December 1998, he was selected as Speaker-designate of the House to succeed Newt Gingrich but resigned from Congress following revelations of an extramarital affair. After leaving Congress, Livingston founded The Livingston Group, a lobbying firm based in Washington, D.C. He has remained active in political circles and lobbying activities since then.
