Christopher Haden-Guest, born on February 5, 1948, is an American-British screenwriter, composer, musician, director, actor, and comedian. He is best known for his mockumentary-style films, including “This Is Spinal Tap,” “Waiting for Guffman,” “Best in Show,” “A Mighty Wind,” and “For Your Consideration.” Guest often collaborates with a troupe of actors, including Eugene Levy, Catherine O’Hara, Michael McKean, and Parker Posey, creating a unique brand of improvisational comedy. Guest was born in New York City to a British United Nations diplomat and a former vice president of casting at CBS. He was educated at the High School of Music & Art in New York City and Bard College. In 1996, Guest succeeded to the British peerage as the 5th Baron Haden-Guest, rendering him a life member of the House of Lords until the House of Lords Act 1999, which removed most hereditary peers’ right to sit in the House. Throughout his career, Guest has also been involved in music, notably as a member of the spoof heavy metal band Spinal Tap, portraying the character Nigel Tufnel. He married actress Jamie Lee Curtis in 1984, and they have two adopted children.
