Biography
Damian Woetzel is an acclaimed American ballet dancer, director, producer, and arts administrator. Born in Boston, Massachusetts, Woetzel began his ballet training at the age of four. He later attended the School of American Ballet and joined the New York City Ballet (NYCB) in 1985. Woetzel quickly rose through the ranks, becoming a principal dancer in 1989. Over his illustrious career, he performed a diverse repertoire, including works by George Balanchine, Jerome Robbins, and many other eminent choreographers. Following his retirement from the stage in 2008, Woetzel transitioned into roles that allowed him to contribute to the arts in new ways. He earned a Master’s in Public Administration from Harvard University’s Kennedy School of Government and became the Director of the Aspen Institute Arts Program.
