Biography
Daniel Reed Crenshaw, better known as Dan Crenshaw, is an American politician and former Navy SEAL who has been serving as the U.S. Representative for Texas’s 2nd congressional district since 2019. Born and raised in Houston, Texas, Crenshaw experienced an international upbringing due to his father’s work in the oil industry, spending significant portions of his childhood in Ecuador and Colombia. He graduated from Tufts University with a Bachelor of Arts in International Relations before earning a Master of Public Administration from Harvard University’s Kennedy School of Government. Crenshaw’s military career began in 2006 when he was commissioned into the United States Navy and joined the SEALs. During his third deployment in Afghanistan, he was severely injured by an improvised explosive device, which resulted in the loss of his right eye. Despite this life-altering injury, Crenshaw continued to serve in the Navy for another three years before retiring as a lieutenant commander in 2016. Following his retirement from the military, Crenshaw transitioned into politics, running for and winning a seat in Congress in 2018. Known for his conservative views, he has been an outspoken advocate on issues such as national security, veterans’ affairs, and economic policy.
