David George Reichert, commonly known as Dave Reichert, is an American politician and former law enforcement officer who served as the U.S. Representative for Washington’s 8th congressional district from 2005 to 2019. Born and raised in Washington state, Reichert attended Concordia Lutheran College in Portland, Oregon. He began his career in law enforcement, joining the King County Sheriff’s Office in 1972. Over the years, he rose through the ranks and was appointed Sheriff of King County in 1997, a position he held until 2004. Reichert gained national attention for his role in the capture of the Green River Killer, one of the most notorious serial killers in American history. Transitioning to politics, Reichert was elected to Congress as a Republican and focused on issues such as public safety, veterans’ affairs, and environmental conservation. After serving seven terms, he chose not to seek re-election in 2018.
