Richard Keith Armey, commonly known as Dick Armey, is an American politician and economist who served as a U.S. Representative from Texas’s 26th congressional district from 1985 to 2003. A member of the Republican Party, Armey was the House Majority Leader from 1995 to 2003. Born in Cando, North Dakota, Armey grew up in a working-class family and went on to earn a Ph.D. in economics from the University of Oklahoma.
