She is perhaps best known for her portrayal of Marie Barone on the hit television sitcom “Everybody Loves Raymond,” which aired from 1996 to 2005. Her performance as the meddling but loving mother earned her four Primetime Emmy Awards for Outstanding Supporting Actress in a Comedy Series. Roberts was born in St. Louis, Missouri, but her family moved to The Bronx, New York, where she was raised. She attended New York University and the Neighborhood Playhouse School of the Theatre. Her Broadway debut came in 1955 in the play “The Time of Your Life.” Roberts had a prolific career, appearing in numerous films such as “Barefoot in the Park” (1967), “The Honeymoon Killers” (1970), and “Grandma’s Boy” (2006).
