Biography
Duncan Duane Hunter is an American politician and former U.S. Representative for California’s 50th congressional district. Born into a family with a strong political background, Hunter followed in the footsteps of his father, Duncan L. Hunter, who also served as a U.S. Representative. Hunter was born in San Diego, California, and grew up in the surrounding areas. He attended Granite Hills High School in El Cajon and later graduated from San Diego State University with a degree in Business Administration. Hunter served in the United States Marine Corps and was deployed to both Iraq and Afghanistan. His military service earned him several commendations, including the Navy/Marine Corps Commendation Medal and the Navy/Marine Corps Achievement Medal. In 2008, Hunter was elected to Congress, succeeding his father, and served until 2020. During his tenure, he was known for his strong conservative views, especially on issues such as national security, immigration, and veterans’ affairs. Hunter’s political career, however, was marred by legal issues. In 2018, he and his wife, Margaret, were indicted on numerous counts of campaign finance violations. After a long legal battle, Hunter pleaded guilty to one count of misusing campaign funds and subsequently resigned from Congress in January 2020. He was later pardoned by President Donald Trump in December 2020.
