Eliot Lance Engel is an American politician who served as a U.S. Representative for New York from 1989 to 2021. Born in the Bronx, New York City, Engel is a member of the Democratic Party. He represented New York’s 16th congressional district for the majority of his tenure, which includes parts of the Bronx and Westchester County. Engel attended public schools in New York City and graduated from Hunter-Lehman College, now known as Lehman College, in 1969. He later earned a master’s degree in guidance and counseling from Lehman College and a law degree from New York Law School.
