Mir was born on May 24, 1979, in Las Vegas, Nevada. A former two-time UFC Heavyweight Champion, he holds the record for the most finishes and the most submission victories in UFC Heavyweight history. Mir began training in martial arts at a young age under the guidance of his father, Frank Mir Sr., who was a black belt in Kenpo Karate. He transitioned to Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu and later earned a black belt under Ricardo Pires. Frank’s MMA career took off when he joined the UFC in 2001. His first major success came in 2004 when he won the UFC Heavyweight Championship by defeating Tim Sylvia via a spectacular armbar submission.
