Born on August 31, 1935, in Beaumont, Texas, Robinson is widely celebrated as one of the greatest players in the history of Major League Baseball (MLB). He made his MLB debut with the Cincinnati Reds in 1956 and quickly established himself as a formidable hitter, winning the National League Rookie of the Year Award. Over his 21-season career, he played for the Cincinnati Reds, Baltimore Orioles, Los Angeles Dodgers, California Angels, and Cleveland Indians. Robinson was a 14-time All-Star, a two-time MVP (the only player to win the award in both the National and American Leagues), and he led the Orioles to two World Series championships. He later made history as the first African-American manager in MLB when he took the helm of the Cleveland Indians in 1975. Robinson passed away on February 7, 2019.
