Jeffrey Allen Ament, known professionally as Jeff Ament, is an American musician and bassist best known as a founding member of the iconic rock band Pearl Jam. Born in Havre, Montana, and raised in the small town of Big Sandy, he developed an early passion for music, playing bass guitar in a series of bands during his high school and college years. He moved to Seattle in the early 1980s, where he became involved in the burgeoning grunge music scene. Ament first gained significant attention as a member of the band Green River, which is often considered one of the first grunge bands. Following the dissolution of Green River, he co-founded Mother Love Bone with Stone Gossard and Bruce Fairweather.
