Josiah Robins “Jo” Bonner Jr. is an American politician who served as the U.S. Representative for Alabama’s 1st congressional district from 2003 to 2013. A member of the Republican Party, Bonner was born in Selma, Alabama, and grew up in Camden, Alabama. He attended the University of Alabama, where he earned a degree in journalism. After working as a congressional aide, Bonner was elected to Congress in 2002. During his tenure, he was known for his work on the House Appropriations Committee and for his efforts to support his district following Hurricane Katrina. After leaving Congress, Bonner served as Vice Chancellor for Government Relations and Economic Development at the University of Alabama System and also worked as a lobbyist. As of 2021, he has been serving as the President of the University of South Alabama.
