John Densmore is an American musician and songwriter best known as the drummer for the rock band The Doors. Born John Paul Densmore, he grew up in Los Angeles, California, and developed an early interest in jazz and rock music. He attended Santa Monica City College and later transferred to California State University, Northridge, where he studied ethnic music under jazz cellist Fred Katz. In 1965, Densmore joined The Doors, a band that would go on to become one of the most influential and iconic groups in rock history. With Jim Morrison on vocals, Ray Manzarek on keyboards, Robby Krieger on guitar, and Densmore on drums, The Doors produced a string of hits and critically acclaimed albums, including “Light My Fire,” “Riders on the Storm,” and “The End.” Beyond his work with The Doors, Densmore has pursued various projects, including writing books and working on film soundtracks.
