Kathleen Hallisey Rubins, known as Kate Rubins, is an American microbiologist and NASA astronaut. Born in Farmington, Connecticut, and raised in Napa, California, Rubins has had a distinguished career in both science and space exploration. She earned her Bachelor of Science degree in Molecular Biology from the University of California, San Diego, and her Ph.D. in Cancer Biology from Stanford University Medical School’s Department of Biochemistry. Rubins was selected by NASA in 2009 and completed her astronaut training in 2011. She flew her first space mission in July 2016 aboard the Soyuz MS-01 spacecraft, spending 115 days in space as part of Expedition 48/49 to the International Space Station (ISS).
