Ken Norton was an American professional boxer who competed from 1967 to 1981. Born in Jacksonville, Illinois, Norton is best known for his trilogy of fights with Muhammad Ali, in which he famously broke Ali’s jaw during their first encounter in 1973. Norton went on to win the bout via a split decision, marking one of the biggest upsets in boxing history. Over the course of his career, Norton held the WBC world heavyweight title in 1978. He was known for his unorthodox fighting style and incredible athleticism, which earned him a place in the International Boxing Hall of Fame in 1992. After retiring from boxing, Norton worked as a commentator and made several appearances in television and film.
