Biography

Kerry King, born Kerry Ray King, is an American musician best known as one of the founding members and the guitarist of the iconic thrash metal band Slayer. Born in Los Angeles, California, King grew up in a musically inclined family and picked up the guitar at a young age. In 1981, he co-founded Slayer alongside Jeff Hanneman, Tom Araya, and Dave Lombardo. The band quickly rose to fame in the 1980s and became one of the “Big Four” thrash metal bands, alongside Metallica, Megadeth, and Anthrax. Known for his aggressive guitar style and distinctive appearance, often featuring a shaved head, long beard, and tattoo-covered arms, King has been a significant influence in the heavy metal genre. Slayer released numerous highly acclaimed albums, including “Reign in Blood,” “South of Heaven,” and “Seasons in the Abyss.” Despite numerous lineup changes over the years, King remained a constant member until the band’s disbandment in 2019.
