Marcia Carolyn “Marcy” Kaptur is an American politician who has served as the U.S. Representative for Ohio’s 9th congressional district since 1983. A member of the Democratic Party, she is currently the longest-serving woman in the history of the U.S. House of Representatives. Kaptur was born in Toledo, Ohio, and attended St. Ursula Academy. She later earned a bachelor’s degree from the University of Wisconsin–Madison and a master’s degree in urban planning from the University of Michigan. She began her career in public service as an urban planner for the National Center for Urban Ethnic Affairs and later worked as a domestic policy advisor in the Carter administration.
