Michael Stanley Dukakis is an American politician who served as the 65th and 67th Governor of Massachusetts from 1975 to 1979 and again from 1983 to 1991. Born to Greek immigrant parents, Dukakis was raised in Brookline, Massachusetts. He attended Swarthmore College and later received his law degree from Harvard Law School. Dukakis’s political career began in the Massachusetts House of Representatives, where he served from 1962 to 1970. He is best known for being the Democratic nominee for President of the United States in the 1988 election, where he lost to Republican George H. W. Bush.
