Michael Newbold Castle, commonly known as Mike Castle, is an American politician who has served in various capacities throughout his career, including as Governor of Delaware and as a U.S. Representative. Born and raised in Wilmington, Delaware, Castle graduated from Tower Hill School before earning his Bachelor of Science in Economics from Hamilton College in 1961. He went on to receive a Juris Doctor degree from Georgetown University Law Center in 1964. Castle entered politics as a member of the Delaware House of Representatives in 1966. His career continued to ascend as he served as Delaware’s Deputy Attorney General and later as the state’s Lieutenant Governor. In 1984, he was elected Governor of Delaware, a position he held until 1992. After serving as Governor, Castle was elected to the U.S. House of Representatives, where he represented Delaware’s at-large congressional district from 1993 to 2011.
