Biography
Moses Malone, born Moses Eugene Malone, was an American professional basketball player who is widely regarded as one of the most dominant centers in the history of the sport. Over a career that spanned two decades, Malone played in both the American Basketball Association (ABA) and the National Basketball Association (NBA). He is particularly well-known for his rebounding prowess and his work ethic on the court. Malone was born in Petersburg, Virginia, and attended Petersburg High School where he became a high school basketball sensation. Skipping college, he joined the Utah Stars of the ABA straight out of high school in 1974, becoming one of the first players to go directly from high school to professional basketball. Malone’s career included stints with several teams, including the Houston Rockets, Philadelphia 76ers, and Washington Bullets, among others. He was a 12-time NBA All-Star and three-time NBA MVP. Perhaps his crowning achievement came in 1983 when he led the Philadelphia 76ers to an NBA Championship and was named Finals MVP. Malone was inducted into the Naismith Memorial Basketball Hall of Fame in 2001. He remains an iconic figure in basketball, remembered for his incredible rebounding ability and his “Fo’ Fo’ Fo’” prediction during the 1983 playoffs, which humorously and famously predicted that the 76ers would sweep through the playoffs (they almost did, going “Fo’, Fi’, Fo’”, which means four, five, four in playoff series wins).
