Peter Roskam is an American politician and attorney who served as the U.S. Representative for Illinois’s 6th congressional district from 2007 to 2019. A member of the Republican Party, Roskam was born in Hinsdale, Illinois, and raised in the nearby suburb of Glen Ellyn. He attended the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign and later earned his Juris Doctor from the Illinois Institute of Technology’s Chicago-Kent College of Law. Roskam began his political career as an aide to Congressman Tom DeLay and later served in the Illinois House of Representatives and the Illinois Senate. During his tenure in Congress, he was known for his work on tax reform, healthcare, and national security. He was a member of the House Ways and Means Committee and chaired the Subcommittee on Tax Policy.
