Randall David Johnson, often referred to as “The Big Unit,” is a retired American professional baseball pitcher. Born on September 10, 1963, in Walnut Creek, California, Johnson is widely regarded as one of the greatest pitchers in the history of Major League Baseball (MLB). Over his illustrious 22-year career, he played for six different teams, including the Seattle Mariners and the Arizona Diamondbacks, where he achieved the most success. Johnson began his MLB career with the Montreal Expos in 1988 but rose to prominence after being traded to the Seattle Mariners in 1989. Known for his towering height of 6 feet 10 inches and his overpowering fastball, Johnson quickly became one of the most feared pitchers in the league. He won the first of his five Cy Young Awards in 1995 with the Mariners. In 1999, Johnson signed with the Arizona Diamondbacks, where he formed a formidable pitching duo with Curt Schilling. He led the Diamondbacks to their first and only World Series title in 2001, earning the World Series MVP award for his exceptional performance.
