Biography

Richard Milhous Nixon was the 37th President of the United States, serving from 1969 to 1974. Born in Yorba Linda, California, Nixon rose through the ranks of American politics, starting as a Congressman and later becoming a Senator and Vice President under Dwight D. Eisenhower. Nixon is perhaps best known for his foreign policy achievements, including establishing détente with the Soviet Union and opening diplomatic relations with China. His presidency, however, was overshadowed by the Watergate scandal, which led to his resignation, the only time a U.S. president has resigned from office.
