Roderick George Toombs, better known by his ring name “Rowdy” Roddy Piper, was a professional wrestler and actor, born on April 17, 1954, in Saskatoon, Saskatchewan, Canada. Piper earned widespread fame in the 1980s and 1990s due to his work with the World Wrestling Federation (WWF, now WWE) and World Championship Wrestling (WCW). Known for his quick wit, charismatic personality, and the iconic “Piper’s Pit” interview segment, he became one of wrestling’s most beloved and hated figures. Piper’s career began in the early 1970s, wrestling in various promotions across North America. His big break came when he joined the WWF in 1984. Piper became one of the top heels (villains) in the company, engaging in memorable feuds with legendary wrestlers like Hulk Hogan, Mr. T, and Jimmy “Superfly” Snuka. He headlined the first WrestleMania in 1985, teaming with “Mr. Wonderful” Paul Orndorff against Hogan and Mr. T. In addition to his wrestling career, Piper was also an accomplished actor.
