Stacey Abrams is an influential American politician, lawyer, author, and voting rights activist. Born in Madison, Wisconsin, she was raised in Gulfport, Mississippi, and later in Atlanta, Georgia, where she grew up in a family that emphasized the importance of public service and education. Abrams attended Spelman College, where she earned a Bachelor of Arts in Interdisciplinary Studies (Political Science, Economics, and Sociology), and later received a Master of Public Affairs from the University of Texas at Austin and a Juris Doctor from Yale Law School. Abrams made history as the first African American woman to become the gubernatorial nominee of a major party in the United States when she ran for Governor of Georgia in 2018.
