Stephen Earle Buyer, commonly known as Steve Buyer, is an American politician who served as a U.S. Representative from Indiana from 1993 to 2011. Born in Rensselaer, Indiana, Buyer graduated from North White High School in Monon, Indiana, and went on to earn a Bachelor of Science degree from The Citadel in 1980. He later earned a Juris Doctor from the Valparaiso University School of Law in 1984. Prior to his political career, Buyer served as an officer in the United States Army and the United States Army Reserve, achieving the rank of Colonel. Buyer began his congressional career representing Indiana’s 5th district, later the 4th district after redistricting. During his tenure, he focused on issues related to veterans’ affairs, healthcare, and national security. He played a significant role on the House Committee on Veterans’ Affairs and the House Energy and Commerce Committee.
