Born in Brussels, Belgium, Thielemans began playing the accordion at a young age before picking up the harmonica and eventually the guitar. He moved to the United States in the early 1950s and quickly made a name for himself in the jazz scene, collaborating with legends such as Charlie Parker, Ella Fitzgerald, and Quincy Jones.
