Biography

Vincent Paul Abbott, better known as Vinnie Paul, was an American musician and songwriter, best remembered as the drummer and co-founder of the heavy metal band Pantera. Born into a musical family, his father was country music songwriter and producer Jerry Abbott. Vinnie Paul formed Pantera in 1981 with his brother, guitarist Dimebag Darrell. The band initially played glam metal before transitioning to a heavier groove metal sound in the late 1980s. They achieved significant commercial success with albums like “Cowboys from Hell,” “Vulgar Display of Power,” and “Far Beyond Driven.” After Pantera disbanded in 2003, Vinnie Paul and his brother formed the band Damageplan. Tragically, Dimebag Darrell was murdered on stage in 2004, leading Vinnie Paul to take a brief hiatus from music. He later joined the band Hellyeah, continuing to record and tour until his death in 2018.
