Admiral William Harry McRaven is a retired United States Navy four-star admiral who served as the ninth commander of the United States Special Operations Command (USSOCOM) from August 8, 2011, to August 28, 2014. He is best known for organizing and overseeing Operation Neptune Spear, the special operations raid that led to the death of Osama bin Laden in 2011. McRaven was born in Pinehurst, North Carolina, and raised in San Antonio, Texas.
