Biography
Yeduguri Sandinti Jaganmohan Reddy, commonly known as Y. S. Jaganmohan Reddy or Jagan, is an Indian politician serving as the 17th and current Chief Minister of Andhra Pradesh since May 30, 2019. Born into a prominent political family, Jagan is the son of the former Chief Minister of Andhra Pradesh, Y. S. Rajasekhara Reddy (popularly known as YSR). Jagan began his political career in the Indian National Congress but later founded the Yuvajana Sramika Rythu Congress Party (YSRCP) in 2011 after a fallout with the Congress leadership. He was born in Jammalamadugu, Kadapa district, Andhra Pradesh, and was educated at Hyderabad Public School and Nizam College. After the untimely death of his father in a helicopter crash in 2009, Jagan’s political career took a pivotal turn. Despite several controversies and legal challenges, including a significant period of incarceration over corruption charges, Jagan has emerged as a significant political force in Andhra Pradesh. Under his leadership, YSRCP achieved a landslide victory in the 2019 Andhra Pradesh Legislative Assembly election, securing 151 out of 175 seats.
